drop sb. off = Take sb somewhere

set out = start a journey

take off = airplane starts journey

see sb off = go with sb. to say goodbye

get away = take a break

get in = be successful

get out of = leave a small vehicle

get off = leave a big vehicle

get on = to board a vehicle

check in = register at a hotel/airport

check out = leave a hotel

look around = see what is there to see

hurry up = be quick

drive off = leave with car

run sb over = hit sb with car

turn back = go back to your starting point

pick sb up = give a lift to sb.

Warning phrasal verbs

 

Steady on! = It’s too much!

Come on! = Do it!

Spit it out! = Say it!

Come off it! = I don’t believe you!

Fire away! = Start telling what the problem is.

Lighten up! = Start feeling better!

Hang on/ Hold on! = Wait a minute!

Step on it! = Go faster!

Watch out! = Be careful!

the salt of earth = a noble person

the scum of the earth = a bad person

down to earth = sensible

go through hell on earth = go through great suffering

earth-shaking/shattering = shocking

there is no earthly reason for = no reason at all

bring sb down to earth = make sb think realistically
